Folks, it’s happening.
After the firestorm that ensued when many people assumed that a potential announcement was cut last minute from Sony’s E3 press conference, Rockstar has finally confirmed what many believed to be true: Red Dead Redemption is back. It’s now official.
Is John Marston back? Is Jack Marston now the lead? Is this a prequel story? Is there a whole new character in charge? I…umm…well…I don’t know.
Literally nothing is known about the game outside of the initial image, which depicts a bunch of tough looking western style men walking towards the camera. The only thing Rockstar is willing to say for now is that RDR2 is an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland.
So, as you can see…not much. Thankfully we don’t need to wait long as the first official trailer arrives later this week. We should get plenty more answers then.
Another juicy tidbit of information leaked over the weekend after Rockstar’s parent company, Take Two, put in a trademark request for something called Red Dead Online. While Rockstar hasn’t specifically said, it’s easy to assume that this mode will be similar to Grand Theft Auto V and its own online world. It’s clear now that GTA Online was a sort of proving ground, a proof of concept that Rockstar could use as a template for their other massive franchises. I can’t wait to see what sort of reinvention this mode brings to a game like Red Dead, which in my opinion already featured great co-op and competitive moments.
Personally, I was hoping that Rockstar would add in another snappy ‘R’ word for this game rather than just throwing a 2 on the back of it and calling it a day. A minor grievance for sure, but wouldn’t something like Red Dead Revenge, Red Dead Revolution, or if you want to go the Konami route, Red Dead Revengeance sound way better?
What are your hopes, expectations, and wants from the (technically) third entry in the franchise? Let me know in the comments.
Haha I agree about the name! I’m excited to see the trailer. I really have no idea what to expect!
Yeah same here. The story line kinda wrapped up nicely, so I’m very curious to see where they take the franchise.
Who else needs redeeming this time?!
I agree with the name and actually thought they’d go with something like “Red Dead Resurgence” but I guess that’s a bit too Hollywood. I’m really excited for the trailer though and the game itself is already my most anticipated for 2017!
Oh, Resurgance, I like that!
Same here, it’s going to be tough waiting until Fall 2017, but I can’t wait to see the direction this game is going in. At least we get a trailer this week!
