I’m sure most of you have seen the teaser trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops III called “Embers” by now. If not, well…make sure to come back tomorrow for the Video Round Up.
After watching it, I couldn’t help but feel strong Deus Ex vibes. The imagery in the trailer and themes touched upon like future technology, augmentation, wearable tech, leading to things getting a little out of control really sealed it for me. Even though both games are vastly different from one another, (one is a high action shooter and the other is a more methodical RPG style experience) it appears I wasn’t the only one to notice the similar themes.
After the trailer launched, the official Deus Ex twitter account got in touch with the Call of Duty handle and sent them a subtle jab. Cat pictures are always worth a laugh, right?
Not only that, Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, art director on the upcoming Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, got in on the action posting these gems:
Frankly, I just love when developers have these back and forth moments with other developers. While I can’t see either game being like the other one, it’s kind of funny how similar themes will bring out behavior like this especially in an age where everything seems so scripted and managed. Seeing developers or official brands go off script even for a short time can be a ton of fun.
