It’s been a while but I think it’s time for the Tactical Assist to return. Dead Kings, Assassin’s Creed Unity’s DLC campaign add on lets us once again run around on the rooftops of Revolutionary France as Master Assassin, Arno Dorian. After escaping the congested streets of Paris, Arno now finds himself within a dreary walls of Franciade hunting down a manuscript beneath the streets in the French Kings crypts.
Not only can the crypts be a bit complex to navigate, but puzzle segments have also been added to a few of the story missions that come off more obtuse than clever. While I enjoyed the DLC overall, the puzzles felt a little under cooked to me. To that end and to save you some time and frustration, I’ve detailed the solutions to each one below so you don’t have to fumble around in the dark like I did.

Chapter 13: Memory 2 – The Book Thief
Stuck in a large room, Arno is tasked with flipping two switches which will open up a pair of gates blocking the way out of the crypts. Unfortunately for you, the game doesn’t help detail where the final switch is, placing a marker randomly on the floor which is completely unhelpful. Thankfully, I do have a video that shows exactly what to do here:
Chapter 13: Memory 4 – Raising The Dead
Not content with just one, Ubisoft has placed three puzzle rooms near the end of this mission and all but one are simply not helpful. The first one I came across expected me to know what to do when given a certain religious phrase. I understood the meaning but wasn’t sure how to complete what they were looking for. If you’re not a religious person or don’t attend a Christian church on Sunday, I have a hard time believing you’ll know what to do without looking it up. That’s just unfair. The second puzzle just made absolutely no sense and I couldn’t find a pattern or clue to help. I’m hoping I missed something. The final puzzle is pretty straightforward thankfully. Yeah, sorry, no handy video this time, but I’ll do my best to explain.
Puzzle 1 (Right Side)
The first puzzle room is filled with braziers and lantern oil with water taking up the center of the room. What you want to do is light the braziers like you were performing a religious sign with your hand for the holy trinity. So immediately jump down and light the brazier below you, then swim to the far end of the room and light the brazier there. Then the second to the left, and the second to the right. Puzzle 2 (Left Side)
This one just made no sense to me. Perhaps I was overlooking something or not seeing some sort of pattern, but essentially, you had to activate the four floor panels in a very specific pattern quickly before the fires went out. If you’re looking at the four panels after entering the room, you need to activate them in the following way: Three, One, Two, Four. Move quickly or the fires will go out and you’ll need to start over.
Puzzle 3 (Final Puzzle)
Simply put, all you need to do here is to activate the panels so the pillar covers the lighted symbols. There’s a specific height each pillar needs to be raised and you’ll know because the symbol will appear on the pillar itself once it’s at the correct height. It’s very straightforward unlike the first two.
Chapter 13: Memory 6 – A Crown of Thorns
While you’re nearing the end of the story in this DLC, there’s still one more puzzle to wrap up here in this memory. If you’re looking at the braziers in front of you, you’ll need to light them in the following order (looking left to right): two, four, three, one. There you go, go claim your reward! If you don’t want to use the video below, you can use the lantern to light up symbols on the floor which correspond to a matching brazier detailing the order to light them.
