It’s the new year and 2015 will be the fifth year of Gamer Crash. When I first started this site, I came in with absolutely zero expectations. I just wanted to write about things that interested me, everything else was an added bonus. I don’t think I could have imagined that I’d still be cranking away after five years. As such, I figure it’s time to mix it up a little bit.
When I first started this site, I made a point to post every single day. It was tough, but I enjoyed it even when the content wasn’t super compelling. I was under the (misguided) impression that to retain readers, I had to update the site every single day. I’ve since come to realize that it’s not how often you post but what you post. Quality is always highly sought after rather than quantity. There’s a billion other sites out there that report on basic news stories and I don’t want to add to that. After all, I’m a one man show here and it was never my intention to compete with the big boys like IGN. I’ve since tweaked the formula a bit, relaxing my rules to not only adjust to my schedule but to also give me a break to prevent any sort of burnout. The days may have changed here and there, but I think I’ve settled on a new posting schedule for the site.
So for the sake of clarity and disclosure, I figured I’d provide a quick update on what’s going on around these parts for you as well.
Keen eyed readers may have already noticed the change this past week. If not, then that’s great as I didn’t want any of this to disrupt your enjoyment of the site. I’ve decided to adopt the “Penny-Arcade” schedule of Monday-Wednesday-Friday for new site updates. It gives me some days in between to come up with new material which is great. Oh, and don’t worry, Saturdays will still be devoted to the Video Round Up. I couldn’t leave that out now could I?
So why the change? It’s something I’ve been toying with here and there a bit but from what I’ve found, this new posting schedule works best for a couple of reasons. The obvious one being that it fits my normal daily schedule much better. Writing is jsut a past time that I enjoy and it doesn’t pay the bills so I can’t devote 100% of my time to it unfortunately. It’s not that I don’t love writing anymore or anything crazy like that, I just don’t have as much time as I did when I first started this venture back in 2010. Yes, things change for better or for worse.
The second reason, and this is a big one to me, is that posting less allows me to take additional time to craft (what I feel are) better and more meaningful articles. I don’t want to just rehash the news which, I’ll admit, I have done before especially during slow weeks. Even when that happens, I try to offer a bit more insight instead of just regurgitating information, but it’s always been something that hasn’t sat well with me. Yes, sometimes I’ll still report on big news items, but for the most part, I want to discuss and talk about bigger things with you guys. I feel that this change will help better achieve that.
I feel like we’re off to a good start already and as always, thanks for stopping by! I hope with this past week, you’ve all enjoyed what I’ve tried to do. I’ve got some more stuff coming so stay tuned!
