Many of you know the annual Evolution Championship Series as a place where the best fighting game enthusiasts come together from around the world to duel it out in their favorite games like Street Fighter IV, Killer Instinct, and Marvel vs Capcom 3 to name a few. While that’s the biggest aspect of the show, many developers who specialize in fighting games also use this event as an opportunity to reveal more details around their games.
This year was no exception and here’s the bigger announcements from this year’s show in Las Vegas.
Raiden Returns In Mortal Kombat X
Yes, that’s right, Mortal Kombat’s reigning God of Thunder returns in this upcoming game and boy does he look beastly. Instead of trying to describe it to you, here’s a gameplay video of Raiden in action. Enjoy!
Killer Instinct Season 2
In a surprise move, Microsoft and Iron Galaxy revealed the second character for Season 2 of Killer Instinct during their panel at the show. While many people were expecting to see Cinder based on how T.J. Combo’s trailer ended, they threw a curve and instead announced Maya. The former curly haired and scantily clad Amazonian warrior went under what I feel, is a very welcomed change and update. She now has a more braided hair look and wearing stylish looking armor while still managing to retain her unique look and twin daggers. Sadly, actual gameplay of Maya is not quite ready, but you have to admit that this announcement was much better than a 10 second tease of an ax hitting a tree like last year. While we may not have gameplay, we did get a screenshot of what she’ll look like.
Tekken Makes A Come Back
Namco Bandai used this year’s event as a launching point in announcing Tekken 7 which is powered by the Unreal Engine 4. Game director Katsuhiro Harada explained that using an engine like Unreal allowed the team to focus on making the actual game rather than developing new hardware and bogging down the process. The team also released a debut trailer which you can find here:
