Maybe it’s just me but I have a feeling that this topic is going to be fairly divisive among the fan base.
The popular (and budget friendly) online third person shooter Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare is finally getting those microtransactions that EA and PopCap had been planning all along. After initially shooting down the idea at launch, the team at PopCap have been busy studying metrics and player data in an effort to determine the best way for them to move forward with the idea. Well, that time has come.
In a post on the EA Blog, series producer Brian Lindley confirmed that microtransactions will be added to the game next week in an effort to allow people to play the way they want. When the update goes live, players will notice that along with the sticker packs, the option to spend real money to purchase in-game currency will be available allowing you to unlock gear faster than by playing the game. So if you want to ignore this aspect and continue to play to unlock gear, you can. Character progression is not affected by this news. No word on prices either but I’m sure there will be a variety to cater to what players want.
In other news, the first two DLC packs were released for free so there’s that aspect. The post on the EA Blog also confirmed that more free updates are on the way which is continued great news.
