9 Minutes of Awesome – Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare

If you’re anything like me, then when you first heard that EA was taking the popular strategy game and turning it into a third person shooter, you immediately groaned and wrote it off completely.

Then E3 2013 happened.

EA hit the stage during their press conference and led off with Garden Warfare. The first thing that really struck me was how fluid and fun the game looked. It definitely carried that Plants vs Zombies theme and humor over so well and from a game play perspective, it really worked.

Fast forward a few months and I began to hear that Garden Warfare takes its cues more from Team Fortress 2 than anything else and after watching the below video clip, I would definitely agree. At it’s core, the game is a class based third person shooter, with each character having special abilities and attacks similar to what you would see in Valve’s very popular shooter. You have the heavy types, the healer types, the engineer types, and what looks to be a soldier type. What’s also pretty cool is that you’ll be able to customize your zombie’s look/behavior and PopCap has promised a large amount of items to pick from for each class. The following video shows off a 24 person team deathmatch style mode but I’m sure the game will ship with others as well.

So needless to say, I learned my lesson. Don’t always take everything at face value. If you find yourself doubting or still on the fence, have a look at the following video which gives a great look at the gameplay with Executive Producer, Brian Lindley, guiding you. Maybe you to will have a change of heart.
