The Mighty No. 9 Sounds Familiar But Amazing

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. The ninth robot in a series has set out to stop the eight former who have gone rogue due to a virus. Each defeated “Mighty Number” robot grants a special power to the main character as he heads out to stop each one which threatens the world. That’s what’s being promised to us in The Mighty No. 9, a new Kickstarter project by Kenji Inafune and his Comcept studio. Looks like we no longer need Capcom to deliver us a new Mega Man fix as Kenji Inafune has decided to step in and take that role once again.

The Mighty No. 9 comes from former Capcom developer and Mega Man creator, Kenji Inafune and his team. It has strong ties to his part work on Mega Man as this title is a 2-D side scrolling action platformer with a lead character who takes on the abilities of enemies he’s defeated. Not only that, Inafune has assembled a dream team of Mega Man alum including level designer Nayoa Tomita, artist Shinsuke Komaki and composer Manami Matsumae.

Originally launched on Kickstarter just a few days ago, the project has already hit it’s $900,000 goal and is poised to knock out it’s various stretch goals as well which include a Mac/Linux version, new game plus and also a port to current gen systems.

While I’m a massive Mega Man fan and am thrilled to have the original creator working on a Mega Man style game like this, I think I can hear Capcom’s lawyers rubbing their hands together like Scrooge McDuck in a diamond mine. I hope this thing can get made without legal interference. I need my Mega Man fix!
