Well here’s an interesting tidbit of potential news floated out there by Kotaku yesterday in regards to the upcoming face punching simulator, Batman: Arkham Origins.
According to their sources, there will be (at least) one mode where players join either Bane’s or The Joker’s gang to take down Batman and Robin. There will be a number of villains, some of which may even be playable and customizable including Killer Croc, Deathstroke, and Deadshot. I’m not entirely sure what that means exactly, but it sounds pretty interesting. Maybe this is taking those challenge rooms from the previous games and flipping them so now you get to play as a villain instead? I could get behind that.
My guess would be that mode won’t be the only option available. My hope is that there’s some sort of co-op mode with one player playing as Batman obviously and the second player taking control of Robin, or Nightwing, or any other sort of sidekick type character. If not making the open world available for both players, maybe some sort of challenge mode.
Keep in mind that none of this has been officially confirmed by Warner Bros or anyone associated with the actual game, but for what it’s worth, I’m intrigued by the news. I’ve never really considered any of the Arkham games for multiplayer, but from what’s been rumored, it sounds interesting and could work. As long as they’re not trying to shoehorn something that doesn’t belong like Batman Team Deathmatch I’ll be happy. Arkham Origins and some sort of Co-op mode could work very nicely. I’m guessing we’ll probably have to wait till E3 to hear for sure so for now, lets keep this one safely tucked away in the rumor bin.
I’m more interested in the 3DS metroid style game of Arkham that’s being release with the console version. Sounds cool. Batman is the ultimate loner; no need for co-op.
From a story and character standpoint, 100% agree with you. He’s a total loner.
I guess, from a gameplay standpoint, I’d love to have some sort of open world co-op element. Kicking ass with friends, that would be really cool. No idea how the story would incorporate that but we can dream, can we?
And you’re right about the 3DS game, completely forgot about that. It looks fantastic so far and I’m really interested to learn more. Could be a good one for sure.
