12 Minutes of Awesome: Preparing To Die Again With Dark Souls II Gameplay

Dark Souls II is returning once more set to take you down a peg.  So as you may or may not know, IGN featured the first gameplay demo showing off over 12 minutes of pure, glorious gameplay.  And there were many deaths.

First things first, it definitely plays like Dark Souls which is a good thing in my book.  I’m sure there will be new moves or features, but it’s good to know the core experience will play similarly to what we expect.  Like slipping on your favorite pair of jeans.  (Ok, sorry, that was a really lame comparison).  The game looks just as good as ever, with fantastic lighting, creepy environments, and improved enemy AI (yeah, like we needed that, right?).  As stated in the video, enemies will now be able to break through walls and react differently to what you do.  Not everyone may be hostile.  Also, a word of advice, don’t stand next to a ledge with boars around.

So for you masochists out there, enjoy yourself with this Dark Souls II look from IGN.  From what it sounds like, the difficulty will be cranked up further.

  1. Wow, looks amazing. I need to start playing this series already! I’ve actually watched playthroughs on Youtube, but I’ve put off trying them myself, knowing their difficulty… but no more!

    • Yeah, the good thing here is that you’re already fully aware at the difficulty spikes. The game tends to teach through death, so as long as you’re aware that you’re due to die quite a bit, you’re halfway there.

I guess that’s why it’s also one of the game’s strong points as well. When you finally conquer that seemingly insurmountable obstacle, the sense of satisfaction is almost overwhelming.

It’s certainly a unique experience for sure. If you ever get around to playing it, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
