With the final piece of Rock Band DLC hitting the popular music title only releasing a week ago, older pieces of DLC have begun to disappear from online stores. What exactly is happening?
As it turns out, some of the earliest licenses that Harmonix secured way back in 2007 are beginning to expire. The latest example of this is the Metallica Pack 01 which included the tracks “Ride the Lightning”, “And Justice For All” and “Blackened”. Currently, this DLC pack has been removed completely from the Rock Band Store and will soon be removed from first party marketplaces as well.
The good news is that Harmonix is looking into relicensing songs and will update the community on a quarterly basis for songs that are expiring and some that may be returning. So my advice if you’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on picking up some DLC would be to act fast. The licenses don’t affect purchased content so even though songs are getting pulled, if you own it, it’s yours. Act fast, there’s no telling what may be coming down next or when.
