7 Minutes Of Aweso….Insanity: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

I’m not sure I can really conjure up words to describe what Platinum Games and Konami released in the video below for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.  It’s just….wild insanity.  Outside of a demo, this is probably the best look at the game you’re going to get.

At the beginning of the clip, we are treated to a lengthy cut scene (typical Kojima), with Raiden driving in a car (yeah, strange to me as well) reflecting on things.  It’s also here we start to get a sense of his dual personality with the more gruff and psychopath sounding “Jack” and the relatively normal and sane Raiden persona.  Forgive me if that’s already well established in the Metal Gear universe as I haven’t been following the many twists and turns of Kojima’s story.

The action heats up when the cybernetic police try to take him down on a freeway.  After an exciting, action filled car chase, the gameplay finally kicks in.  The third person action is lightning fast and is filled with sword slicing.  There appears to be a meter that fills that allows the player to slow time around Raiden as you control his sword strikes, slicing through pretty much anything.  Nailing a red square will also kick off a cinematic and stylish kill with Raiden removing some sort of power source from the person/object he’s fighting.  After dealing with the cybernetic police, a couple of Metal Gears show up and the frenetic action gameplay takes off again.  This is Platinum Games at their finest as far as I can tell.  If you’re a fan of their action games, I have no doubt that this will fall right in line.

Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too long to get our hands on it.  the game releases Feb 21, but a demo is set to drop next week on January 22.  That is to say, you don’t already have it from the Zone of the Enders HD collection.  I’ll have my impressions on the demo sometime next week once it hits.

For an added bit of slice and dice to your day, buckle up for 7 minutes of high-octane ninja action:
