One of the big reveals last month came from the folks over at Insomniac games. Gamers, including myself, were beginning to wonder just what happened to the game revealed back at E3 2011 called OverStrike. Looking like a mature Pixar movie, Insomniac never said a word after that reveal trailer. As it turned out, they were working hard at making the game work from a story standpoint. It’s at this point in the story that the game shifted into what was recently revealed to be Fuse.
Shedding it’s Pixar like look, Fuse employs a more gritty style look but promises that Insomniac’s trademark humor and guns are still quite heavily involved. The gameplay below gives us a great look at just what is going on with Fuse straight from the fearless leader of Insomniac, Ted Price. The video covers everything from the story basics, showing off the Fuse powered weapons, the “LEAP” system which lets players seamlessly jump from each member of the OverStrike9 team, and also the progression system which I don’t think has been covered in much detail previously. Combining 4 player co-op with an upgradable skill system could potentially rival the equally addictive Borderlands 2 style game. The point notifications that pop up as you’re doing things in-game reminds me a bit of Bulletstorm and frankly, I like that. Being rewarded for doing cool stuff earns you two thumbs up in my book. Keep in mind that the gameplay shown in the video is pre-alpha so it’s still a bit early as the game isn’t due out until March 2013.
For a really good look at the former OverStrike, here’s the official video straight from Papa Bear Price himself. Enjoy!
