So the constant back and forth on the ‘will they/won’t they’ may have finally reached a conclusion on the TimeSplitters 4 debate. Recently, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli made some very interesting comments regarding the much sought after shooter.
After making comments about the game probably not coming to retail…ever…Yerli did restore hope when he said that he’s extremely intrigued by a free to play version. Yerli said that he wished the company could work on it, but the publishers out there are just not interested and he doesn’t want to spend Crytek’s money on a retail project.
Here’s where the ray of hope came down. With Crytek moving entirely to a free-to-play business model after Crysis 3 ships, Yerli mentioned that TimeSplitters could be resurrected as a free-to-play game and loves the picture of the game running on GFACE. For those of you who haven’t heard, GFACE is Crytek’s version of a browser-based, social gaming platform. The interface will promote interactivity between players (kind of like a social network) and games will be delivered through a plugin based on the “Seed Engine”. What this means is that you won’t need to install anything as games will be streamed.
So what do you think? Does the F2P aspect make you nervous? Of course, nothing is official, but it’s certainly good news that the company seems open to bringing the franchise back in some form.
