Not sure if you’ve been following the story, but earlier this month it was reported that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer, GSC Game World, was closing up shop for good and their current project, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, was getting canned. The rumors continued to spread when GSC deleted a tweet that denied the closure rumors and instead posted that they would do their best to continue on but at the time nothing was certain. It was a lot of back and forth with many news outlets reporting that the studio was indeed shuttered.
Thankfully, a few days ago GSC put out a very hopeful tweet mentioning that they weren’t going to put out any more news until mid-January but there is cause for hope. It also looks like they’re continuing development on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, which is due out sometime in 2012.
I unfortunately have not played any of their games but I do know people who have. I’ve heard only good things and after reading all of this it only makes me want to rush out and support them even more. While we still don’t know what kind of news GSC is going to come out with, here’s hoping that it’s only good. In a rough year for many development studios like Black Rock and Bizarre, it’s good to see that not all studios faced with closure go down. Here’s hoping that GSC can endure and continue on. Lets begin 2012 on a high note.
